Sales of eco-friendly products increased in the Middle East
Dubai, UAE - Konica Minolta Business Solutions Middle East FZE has announced that its sales in the Middle East has been well underway in fulfilling the Eco Vision 2050, in line with Konica Minolta Inc.'s aim to reduce CO2 emissions by the year 2050. Launched in 2009, Konica Minolta Inc. targeted reducing CO2 emissions by 80%, with 2005 as the baseline. The Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2015, also launched in the same year, aimed to reduce emissions by 20%.
According to Managing Director Mr. Koichi Suzuki of Konica's Middle East Branch, sales in the Middle East of environmental technologies have been on the rise since the end of last year, reflecting the number of eco-conscious companies in the region. In the Gulf countries, sales increased in Saudi Arabia at the fastest rate, with the United Arab Emirates being the second biggest consumer of eco-friendly printers.
These eco-friendly printers use different technologies in order to enhance economic benefits for businesses through their bizhub e-series. For example, the printers reduce power consumption to a mere 1 watt during its sleep mode. The printers will replace oil-derived materials with more recycled materials. Although the initial costs of eco-friendly printers may be higher than their counterparts, The Eco Vision 2050 is a long-term environmental vision that will guide companies in the right direction to contributing to a sustainable earth and society.
Mr. Suzuki further stated, "Among the many milestones in our overall Eco Vision, we have been actively looking to reduce petroleum-based resource usage by 20% (per unit of sales), build up product recycling systems in each region and aim for a recycling rate of 90% or more. We are very proud to see such a responsive reaction to our plan from our partners in the Middle East who recognize the importance of investing in green technology."
With these strong long-term visionary plans launched in 2009, Konica Minolta takes thought leadership of the printing industry by setting high standards that drive balanced and sustainable growth.
Mr. Koichi Suzuki added, "Eco Vision 2050 comprises specific approaches and targets for four objectives: preventing global warming, supporting a recycling-oriented society, reducing the risk of chemical substances, and restoring and preserving biodiversity, and we are seriously pursuing our plans to achieve these objectives."
