Beirut, February 13th, 2015: Despite the devastating storm hitting Lebanon in general, and the Lebanese coast in particular, Karpowership ensures that its two powerships Fatmagül Sultan and Orhan Bey are perfectly operational and generating at full capacity to accommodate the needs of Electricité du Liban (EDL).

In order to protect the Lebanese grid, safety protocols were briefly put in place at Zouk, therefore shortly stopping the production of Fatamgül Sultan, which resumed operations immediately afterwards. In the meantime, Orhan Bey operations at Jyeh were not affected and production continued normally.

The technical teams aboard powerships Fatmagül Sultan and Orhan Bey, in close coordination with EDL personnel, are deploying extraordinary efforts ensuring the normal continuity of power generation to provide the Lebanese network with the necessary electricity supply, and making sure the Lebanese citizens are the least possibly affected by the lack of electricity.

The two Powerships Fatmagül Sultan and Orhan Bey, docked respectively in Zouk and Jiyeh since 2013, came as part of an agreement between the Turkish company and the Lebanese Government. They generate currently close to 300MW of the total electricity in Lebanon.
