Dubai: UNHCR, the  UN Refugee Agency, today announced that Lebanese social media influencer Karen Wazen has been named as a High Profile Supporter of UNHCR for her dedication and commitment to raising awareness of the plight of refugees and displaced populations across the region over the past three years. The title was officially given to Karen at a signing ceremony held at the UNHCR offices in International Humanitarian City, Dubai.

“We are delighted to have Karen join UNHCR’s team of High Profile Supporters. Karen has worked tirelessly to harness the power of social media to highlight the refugee crisis in the region. We are looking forward to embarking on a renewed and impactful collaboration with her,” said Houssam Chahine, UNHCR’s Chief of Private Sector Partnerships in the MENA region, at the naming ceremony. “Karen is a passionate humanitarian who has used her voice to advocate for the rights of refugees, displaced persons and host communities worldwide. We will continue to work together in her new capacity, to amplify the voice of those forced from their homes in the region and across the globe and draw greater attention to their plight,” he added.

UNHCR High Profile Supporter, international style icon and entrepreneur Karen has been on numerous field missions in support of the refugee cause over the past three years. She represented UNHCR at the launch  of MADE51 at Virgin Megastores in the presence of Sir Richard Branson and has consistently supported UNHCR’s Ramadan and Winter campaigns, as well as other emergency appeals, leveraging her profile with her audience to raise awareness on the plight of displaced populations to give a voice to refugees worldwide.

“I am so proud to use my voice and my platform for a mission that is so close to my heart. Being trusted and valued by an organization such as UNHCR and having the opportunity to see firsthand the positive impact that all of this hard work has, is truly an honor,” commented Karen while visiting UNHCR’s emergency stockpile after her signing ceremony. “I am inspired by their dedication and I look forward to continuing to highlight the refugee crisis in the Middle East,” she added.
