International House Dubai, one of the region's leading training and development institutes, and part of the International House World Organisation (IHWO), has announced it will now offer the internationally-recognised exam Cambridge English: First (FCE).
Effective from autumn 2011, International House Dubai will offer its students, individuals and corporations the opportunity to gain this upper main suite English qualification. The exam, Cambridge English: First (FCE) is a B2 level exam on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). This level is described as the point when a language learner becomes an "independent user" of the language. This is also normally the minimum level expected for study or work.
The exam will be available for adults in both paper-based and computer-based formats; and also for teenagers in the form of First for Schools. This is also a B2 level exam but more appropriate to teenagers and young adults and their world knowledge.

Worldwide, the 'First' is recognised as the ideal benchmark qualification for those living and working in an English-speaking environment. It marks the minimum standard you need to live independently in an English-speaking country, or what you should expect of your employees to be able to work competently and effectively in all skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing."
The Cambridge English exams are accessible to everyone as they have specially-designed Young Learner English (YLE) tests for children, whilst the Key English Test for Schools (KET) and the Preliminary English Test (PET) for Schools, and now First for Schools, are ideal for teenagers. They are also useful in that they act as excellent 'stepping stones' for learning to foster success in the IELTS exam.
For adults the KET, PET and FCE or 'First' offer a similar pathway towards proficiency in English. Additionally, IH Dubai offer language exams which are specific to the workplace and these can be found at three levels in the Business English Certificates at: Preliminary, Vantage and Higher. IH is also an approved agent for the Business Language Testing Service, BULATS, which is an ideal assessment tool for recruitment and talent management purposes.
