Contract marks a first for the region and the project will act as a reference site for the Middle East

Instant Upright, a global provider of access solutions for low and high reach work locations, has secured a contract with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC)/PEMCO for two of its quick erect boiler systems to be used in the Ghazlan power plant. The US$1million deal marks the first time a quick erect boiler system has been commissioned in the Middle East and Ghazlan will be a reference site for the wider region. The announcement was made during the Enterprise Ireland Trade and Investment Mission to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE.

Located on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, 80km north of Damman, Ghazlan is an oil-fired power plant with eight power-generating units and a total capacity of 3200MW. SEC plans to spend $ 80 billion over the next 10 years to meet Saudi Arabia's rising demand for electricity and Instant Upright has been able to provide a unique product which relies on expert engineering design and support from Dublin.

SEC generates approximately 75% of the electric power in Saudi Arabia and continues to improve efficiencies and introduce more effective processes to ensure best practice within the region.

Joe Oxley, District Manager Middle East and North Africa, Instant Upright commented: ''We are delighted to provide the very first quick erect system ever sold in the Middle East and especially pleased to work with such a prestigious company as SEC. Both SEC and Instant Upright are excited about commissioning this system in early January and are confident that this will be the first of many used in KSA over the coming years. The project has already led to the creation of jobs in the Dublin factory and we believe there is significant potential to expand further in the Middle East.''

Speaking in Riyadh during his trade mission to Saudi Arabia, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: 'Instant Upright is a great example of an innovative, export-focussed Irish company with a world-class product.  This unique deal speaks volumes about the reputation of Irish companies for delivering quality product and service that can compete with the best in the world.  Contracts like this position Irish companies to increase their export footprint, ultimately bringing increased prosperity and jobs to the business back home in Ireland'.

Speaking on the trade mission Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton TD said: "This announcement by Instant Upright is very welcome and shows what is possible for Irish companies in this region. This is a highly innovative Irish company, which has secured a contract with a major Saudi company resulting in major growth for the company and jobs in Ireland. I wish them every success with this venture".

Instant Upright is represented in over 100 countries and territories across the globe with a head office in Dublin, Ireland. The Instant-Upright Quick-Erect Boiler Scaffold offers a unique system that provides safe and rapid access to all of the key internal areas of the boiler of a power station. The corrosion-proof aluminium scaffold will greatly increase efficiency in erection and dismantling and saves a significant amount of time when compared to traditional steel scaffold.
