Doha, Qatar - 25 November 2008 - Qatalum, a joint venture by Qatar Petroleum and  the Norwegian based aluminum company Hydro has retained the services of IGTC - Chubb Fire Qatar to conduct safety training in November and December 2008 for 4,000 construction workers who are at work on the plant site. The personnel will be trained in techniques and equipment that will allow them to work safely at heights. Qatalum Ltd. recently celebrated the first anniversary of its incorporation, while the Qatalum plant, which is currently under construction, is on schedule to be completed in 2010.

When completed, the Qatalum Aluminum plant will have a capacity in the first phase of 585,000 tons of primary aluminum, all of which will be shipped as value added aluminum casthouse products. End of August this year, construction of the plant was 36% completed and civil works continue with over 13,000 workers on site.

"The on-site workers are faced with the hazards of any busy construction site, particularly while working at heights. We want to make sure that we provide them with the best possible training," says Qatalum HSE Manager, Jan Arild Berget. "Therefore we will ensure that the Qatalum workforce obtain additional working knowledge of the dangers of working at height and are familiarized with the use and application of harnesses and fall protection systems."

He added: "IGTC - Chubb Fire Qatar is one of the global leaders in fire protection, safety and security solutions, and it was only natural that we bring in the experts to conduct additional training for the site personnel."

IGTC - Chubb Fire Qatar has struck an alliance with the Australia based M&O Global Group of companies, which is recognized as the world leader in safety and emergency response training for the global resources industry and has trained over 150,000 individuals to date. IGTC - Chubb Fire Qatar and M&O Global will work closely to conduct the training program for Qatalum. "The training exercises will stress on day to day security and safety while working at heights, and is therefore critical," shared Rami Al Batrawi, General Manager, IGTC - Chubb Fire Qatar. "What the workers learn in these training sessions will enhance the safety not only of the plant as a whole, but of each employee working on the construction site of the plant."

A highly qualified team of trainers from IGTC - Chubb Fire Qatar and M&O Global will conduct the training program. Instructors will be well-versed in safety procedures and incident handling and will be able to provide accurate information and advice. The team is backed by many years of real-world experience as well as special training programs, allowing them to expertly address all potential hazards and instruct on the deployment of appropriate countermeasures.

IGTC - Chubb Fire Qatar was recently re-awarded ISO standard certificates by external auditors Moody International subsequent to audits on the Doha-based company in February this year. "We're delighted to have been chosen by Qatalum to conduct this training program, and I have no doubt that we will deliver everything that is expected of us and more in partnership with our associates at M&O Global," said Mr. Al Batrawi.
