Gulf Business Machines (GBM) operation in Dubai, has announced the availability in Dubai of IBM’s eServer i5 Systems, the industry’s first server to be based on IBMs much anticipated POWER5 microprocessor. Running i5/OS - the next generation of the OS/400 operating system – the new eServer i5 systems provide small and medium sized businesses with unprecedented power, flexibility and cost benefits.
Powered by POWER5 microprocessors, the most powerful 64-bit chips ever built by IBM, the IBM eServer i5 can integrate and run multiple operating systems simultaneously including i5/OS, Windows, Linux and AIX 5L. The eServer i5 has the ability to run AIX 5L alongside eServer i5/OS to consolidate and manage UNIX solutions. IBM’s new Virtualisation Engine technology embedded in the new eServer i5 systems extend and enhance iSeries virtualisation capabilities such as logical partitioning (LPAR).
“Businesses using the eServer i5 can have a significant improvement in system price/performance over previous iSeries systems with comparable prices to UNIX-based systems for memory, disk and server components,” said Ashok Bhola, General Manger UCMC, who added that the announcement follows a recently held event at Nad Al Shiba Club in Dubai, where IBM launched the server.
“The event was attended by a number of senior executives who represented a diverse range of businesses and industries. They demonstrated keen interest in this latest offering from IBM,” added Mr. Bhola.
