Dubai, UAE: The Capital Club - Dubai's premier private business club -assembled some of the region's most senior financial services heavyweights to debate the ramifications of the Borse Dubai/NASDAQ alliance at an event last week. Borse Dubai CEO Per Larsson and a panel of specialists highlighted the benefits of Borse Dubai and NASDAQ's strategic plans, and their potential impact on regional capital markets, at a time when European regulators are smoothing the path for the companies to take over Nordic bourse OMX AB.
"Borse Dubai and NASDAQ's alliance has been a key topic of discussion for Capital Club Members across a range of industry sectors for the last few months," said Andrew Christon, General Manager of the Capital Club. "Members were incredibly keen to hear firsthand about the series of transactions initiated by Borse Dubai and NASDAQ that would create a global financial market place with a unique footprint spanning the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and strategic emerging markets."
In addition to Borse Dubai's CEO Per Larsson, the panel of specialists addressing the Capital Club included: David King, Managing Director Business Development, CIBM - HSBC Middle East; Iyad Duwaji, CEO - Shuaa Capital and Arif Naqvi, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO - Abraaj.
"While the Capital Club serves an important social role from our new location within DIFC, we also value the opportunity to enable our Members to hear firsthand about the business developments and opportunities that are being created in Dubai's core industries, including financial services," Christon added.
Prior to the Borse Dubai and NASDAQ debate, the Capital Club earlier this month hosted a reception for HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and a senior Malaysian trade delegation. Violin virtuoso Miha Poga?nik, president of the Institute of Development of Intercultural Relations through the Arts; H.E. Dr. Omar, Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre; former Costa Rican President and CEO of Grupo Felipe IV in Spain, José María Figueres; and acclaimed business advisor, speaker, and author Ram Charan have all been members of the Capital Club's speakers' programme.
The Capital Club, launched late 2006, is scheduled to open next month in the DIFC's Gate Village.
