Almaeeni: Consumer culture is turning towards energy saving
Dubai, UAE- The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA), revealed a radical shift in the consumer culture towards the use of energy saving devices and tools in the private buildings and facilities in the UAE, As the trend toward higher (five and four) stars increased, compared to a marked decline in the lowest rated devices.
ESMA’s Director General, HE Abdullah Al-Maeeni, was talking to reporters yesterday, on the sidelines of the participation at the Big 5 in Dubai, said that the total number of electricity and water fixtures products with Energy efficiency card reached 54,176 products, 35,000 five-star products and 19,000 other 4-star products.
While consumers' demand for both one & two stars fell dramatically to 6 and 50 respectively, for faucet products, shower head& bath tub & toilet. He added.
The energy efficiency program have been applied to all the most energy consuming and newly imported electrical appliances for local markets. Two years ago, a similar system was applied to the Energy efficiency card for water consumption.
ESMA focuses on creating the legislative structure that serves the government's orientations. Reduce energy consumption, and promote sustainability, by creating environmentally friendly solutions, and saving in consumption. Al-Maeeni said
ESMA issued through the implementation of the Gulf Technical Regulations for low voltage electrical appliances and equipment, since its inception in July 2016 until this month, 1423 matching certificates, for a total of 4374 products, for 91 companies.
The total requests for 608 applications, that the percentage of certificates issued by ESMA compared to all the concerned parties amounted to 11% of the 35 specific entities, and thus is considered the second highest certification authority in this regard. He added.
The regulation specifies the mandatory requirements for the safety of low voltage electrical appliances, which must be available in these electrical devices, from the design and manufacture of devices and equipment to ensure the protection of hazards to humans and animals, and protect against the risk of physical harm or any damage that may result in direct or indirect electrical contact Direct.
ESMA has achieved remarkable growth through the implementation of the UAE system for the control of trailers and semi-trailers, which serves the construction sector and other vital sectors in the UAE, and takes into account the highest standards of safety, efficiency, on the roads when transported by these trailers, The total number of trailers with a certificate of conformity reached 19,645 since the application two years ago, until the end of last October.
The number of trailers and semi-trailers recorded in ESMA this year amounted to 11,891 trailers and half trailers, a remarkable increase over the results of last year, which saw 7745 certificates of conformity.
The system defines the safety requirements for trailers and semi-trailers manufactured locally according to ESMA’s approved standard. It includes the technical requirements for the mechanism of issuing structural numbers, data plates for trailers, semi-trailers, dimensions, weights and technical requirements for rear and side barriers.
