Higher Colleges of Technology and Technische Universität Berlin sign MoU to develop sustainable industrial engineering in UAE
DUBAI, October 27 2010: The two higher educational institutions, UAE Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and Technische Universität Berlin (TUB), one of Germany's foremost technical institutions, have signed a far-reaching Memorandum of Understanding during DIT 4th Strategic Forum to enlarge and broaden their cooperation and establish collaboration on further research ,driven studies on sustainable industrial engineering.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Simon Jones, Director of Abu Dhabi Men's College on behalf of HCT, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günther Seliger, Dean of Global Production Engineering at TUB, in the presence of Dr. Eng. Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director, DIT, at a brief ceremony held at the recently-concluded 4th DIT Strategic Forum and 20th WAITRO Biennial Congress.
Under the terms of the MoU, HCT and TUB have agreed to collaborate on pursuing joint programs for the development of sustainability engineering capabilities between UAE and Germany. The scope of collaboration includes fostering education and research cooperation, organise joint study programmes, promote scholarships, exchange scholars and scientific materials, and sponsor workshops, seminars and other scientific meetings.
Dr. Jones and Prof. Dr. Seliger agreed that establishing close cooperation was needed to support the development of sustainable engineering in the UAE and Germany.
Dr. Simon Jones, Director of Abu Dhabi Men's College, said:
"This is a landmark day for the Higher Colleges of Technology as we lay the ground for truly effective scientific research and development in the UAE with the collaboration of one of the most renowned technological institutions, Technische Universität Berlin. It is only through innovations in science and technology that we can ensure sustainable development in the UAE."
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günther Seliger, Dean of Global Production Engineering at Technische Universität Berlin, said:
"The DIT Strategic Forum and WAITRO provided us with a wonderful opportunity to launch this initiative with the HCT in the UAE itself. This modern Arab nation in the UAE has already established itself in the forefront of advancing the cause of science and technology through organisations like TechnoPark and the Dubai Institute of Technology. We look forward to long and fruitful cooperation with our partners."
Welcoming the spirit of strategic partnership between the two institutions, Dr. Eng. Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director, DIT, said:
"It is a unique honour for DIT to have played a role in facilitating the signing of this scientific collaboration, which is designed to open the doors to a whole new world of technological advancement for both the UAE and Germany. We wish the Higher Colleges of Technology and Technische Universität Berlin every success in their efforts."
TUB is an internationally acclaimed university distinguished by research and teaching excellence. Its Global Production Engineering programme, which Dr.-Ing. Seliger heads, is well-known for offering a wide range of courses in industrial manufacturing with currently two majors: Manufacturing and Solar. The strong connection between the industry and the research brings theory and practice together in one place by GPE.
The Higher Colleges of Technology are one of the largest, most progressive and innovative places of higher learning in the UAE.
DIT is the research and development initiative of Economic Zones World (EZW) under TechnoPark. It symbolizes Dubai's vision to develop a knowledge-based technology-centric sustainable business hub, which will not only support the country's research and development needs in its core sectors but will also support the nation's long term economic development and growth.
