The Environment Department of Dubai Municipality is geared up with a variety of activities and programmes to mark the World Water Day observed this year under the title 'International Year of Water Cooperation' during the period of 21 -29 March 2013.
The nine day activities are aimed at focusing on the international attention on water related issues, call for the sustainable management of pure water resources, shedding light on the firm connection between the availability of water resources and world food security, encouraging the governments, organizations, societies and individuals to participates in the endeavors to make change in the water and food safety related dilemmas... etc.
This was stated by Eng. Hamdan Al Shaer, Director of Environment Department at Dubai Municipality when announcing the World Water Day activities 2013 organized by the department.
Hamdan explained the activities that include a Mobile Awareness Exhibition designed to demonstrate the efforts of the civic body in water preservation and monitoring its quality along with the efforts of private sector in water conservation and control. There will be an awareness contest for employees and public during the exhibition. In addition , brochures, leaflets and short movies will be distributed and displayed.
'The mobile exhibition will be held in four main locations namely : Salma Al Ansariya Girls School during 9.00 am to 1.00 pm on 21 March, DP world - Jabal Ali at 10.00 am to 1.00 pm on 25 March, DM main building at 10.00 am to 1.00 pm on 27 March and Al Tawar DM Center at 10.00 am to 1.00 pm on 28 March,' he said.
'The other major event is a Water Awareness Campaign in DM labour camp located in AL Muhaisina on 29 March in collaboration with ELEF Group aiming to raise the awareness on water preservation and ways to use it effectively among workers,' he continued.
'The environment department and other relevant departments of DM will also organize another awareness campaign in collaboration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority in certain areas of the emirate of Dubai where the water consumption is relatively higher. This campaign is expected to raise the awareness regarding some municipal services such as cleaning water tanks and other water storage places,' he added.
