Dubai, THE UAE, March 02, 2011 - D-Link Middle East & Africa: The growing popularity of smartphones, tablet computers and other Internet-ready devices is driving demand for anytime, anywhere Internet access. According to a recent report from Gartner (November 2010) *, smartphone sales grew as much as 96 per cent from the third quarter of 2009 - the third double-digit increase in sales year-on-year.
To address this, D-Link showcased a new range of portable 3G and 4G devices at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona.
"The need to be constantly connected is becoming common place. D-Link has been developing networking technologies for 25 years and we are building on this heritage to assist our customers with a strong 3G and 4G offering," said Harrison Albert, Regional Sales Director at D-Link Middle East & Africa.
Portable 3G USB routers
Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, the Portable 3G 7.2 Mbps USB Router (DWR-530) and Mini 3G 7.2 Mbps USB Router (DWR-510) offer users maximum convenience and portability, delivering mobile download speeds of 7.2 Mbps. In areas without wireless access, the mobile routers deliver concurrent Internet connectivity for devices like iPads, smartphones and laptops, all through a single mobile connection with 3.75G High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA).
At around the size of a conventional dongle, the Mini 3G 7.2 Mbps USB Router (DWR-510) combines a 3.75G modem and Wi-Fi router in a single compact device. By plugging it into a USB power source, such as a laptop, customers can enjoy immediate mobile access to a 3G service network. However, by simply flicking a switch the router changes function to become a Wireless N router, allowing Internet access for nearby Wi-Fi capable devices like laptops, tablets and smartphones. Security is ensured through robust wireless encryption using WPA/WPA2.
The Portable 3G 7.2 Mbps USB Router (DWR-530) includes a 1500mAh battery for up to four hours of mobile usage time. For users looking to transfer files or backup their data on the go, it also supports Micro SD cards of up to 32 Gigabytes (GB).
Portable 3G Ethernet Router
Similar to the Portable 3G 7.2 Mbps USB Router (DWR-530), the Portable Ethernet Router with 3.1 Mbps Mobile Broadband (DWR-131) provides users with all the flexibility of mobile broadband access but with the addition of an Ethernet port. With a 1700mAh battery, simply plug in a compatible 3G dongle to take advantage of 3.1 Mbps download speeds on the move or connect to a fixed line to allow Internet access for nearby Wi-Fi capable devices.
Routers with 3G backup
For SMBs that rely on their Internet access, D-Link also showcased the flexible Wireless N 150 Home Router with 3.1 Mbps Mobile Broadband (DWR-113) and the Wireless N 3G 7.2 Mbps VPN Router (DWR-555) which provide backup support in case a wired connection fails. The Wireless N 150 Home Router with 3.1 Mbps Mobile Broadband is compatible with 300 models of 3G USB dongle; meaning users that rely on Internet access do not experience downtime if their primary connection fails. The Wireless N 3G 7.2 Mbps VPN Router offers the same functionality via a SIM card slot on the device. Both routers offer Wireless N connectivity and the latter also supports features like VPN (Virtual Private Networks) making it an ideal solution for SMBs that depend on secure site-to-site connectivity.
