The organizing Committee of seventh International Food Safety Conference, which would be held in 21 -23 February 2012, has completed the final preparations for the programmes and activities associated to the conference.
Khalid Sharif Al Awadhi, Director of Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality said this year the conference would be conducted in partnership with the International Food Protection Association (IAFP) with a verity of programmes meeting the entire areas of the food safety.
IAFP is an organization of 3,600 food safety professionals committed to Advancing Food Safety Worldwide by providing members worldwide with a forum to exchange information on protecting the global food supply.
"An open discussion between food control authorities in GCC and food manufacturing and trading sector will be the first programme. The top transparency followed by the food control authorities will be highlighted in this session. Many important topics related to the consumer and production sector are expected to be raised," Khalid said.
"The key issues expected to be raised are the lack of unified food code and specifications in GCC creating several troubles to the companies, the role of companies in food monitoring, changing the role of authorities to the verification instead of conventional inspection and the future and challenges of food safety in GCC," he said.
The discussion session is expected to include key food importers and manufacturers of the UAE and GCC, consulates, commercial attaches, universities and relevant educational and research organizations in local, regional and international levels.
Eng. Amina Ahmad, Director of Accreditation Department, Vice President of the Organizing Committee and Chairman of the Scientific Committee said It is worth mentioning that the conference will be held in cooperation with several agencies such as Ministry of Environment and Water, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, United Arab Emirates University, Food and Agriculture Organization, World Health Organization, Food Code Authority (Codex), US Center for Disease Control, US Ministry of Agriculture, DHA and International Association for food Protection.
"The program includes lectures and seminars on 21 and 22 as well as numerous specialized workshops, which will be held on 23 February," she said.
The Committee emphasizes that the programs of this session will add quality to last six years' experiments, where the authorities, companies and other participants can take advantage of international best practices and experiences in the field of food safety. The organizers expect a significant increase in participants comparing to 1,200 participants representing more than 50 countries in 2011.
