As a part of its efforts to enhance the employment conditions for people of determination in Dubai, the Community Development Authority in Dubai held its second virtual workshop aimed at empowering Supported Employment Service providers, by updating and improving their existing practices to protect the rights of People of Determination.
The workshop was held in collaboration with the Inclusive Employment Team of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), as well as members of the private sector, Dagaz HR Consultancy, and e-commerce platform , Noon Mahali Programme.
During the workshop, the service providers were provided with an overview of the Harrison Assessment, as an effective tool to determine the skills and preference of a Person of Determination, to determine the Employment Path for the candidate. The service providers were also introduced to the Noon – Mahali Programme, an Online Platform, which has opened doors for digital marketing of the products manufactured at the centers.
Mariam Al Hammadi, Acting Director of the People of Determination Department at CDA, said that the workshop has served to help the various stakeholders to communicate and review the accomplishments of the Supported Employment Services Programme for people of determination. She noted that discussing and documenting the best practices for employing people of determination could help the government develop new plans and programs that would facilitate and enhance the hiring process.
The Dagaz HR Consultancy and the Inclusive Employment Team at KHDA, shed light on some of the effective tools that organizations employ to enhance their hiring process. They explained the concept of the Harrison Assessment, a human resource assessment tool designed to monitor the skills and job opportunities for people of determination. The system helps users to identify the skills and capabilities of applicants and provides guidance on the best way to assess people of determination in a professional manner.
The representatives of Noon’s Mahali Programme also shared their insights about their programme, which supports local entrepreneurs. They shared how concerned service providers or individuals can register to join the Mahali programme, the prospects in e-commerce business, as well as the most in-demand products in the local market. This can help people of determination to take advantage of these trends and create opportunities to improve their financial resources.
Al Hammadi remarked: “The feedback of this workshop provides us with important inputs for the continuous development of our guidelines and help achieve the aspirations of all stakeholders as there is no single formula to meet the needs of the people of determination. The recommendations of experts in this field ensured that the service providers would receive the necessary support towards inclusive employment and financial empowerment considering the market trends, as well as the skills and preferences of the people of determination.”
The workshop was held in both Arabic and English with the participation of 12 organizations, including Supported Employment Services providers, Centers for people of determination, and several government entities.
