Co-op Islami to apply experience gained in frozen chicken industry to promoting new cheese product
21 December, 2002
Co-Op Islami, the Gulf’s leading supplier of pure Halal meat products, has expanded its popular food product lines with the launch of Halloumi cheese in the UAE and regional markets.
The introduction of Halloumi cheese products marks another step in a planned growth programme by the national company as it responds to growing demand from its customer base to provide a far wider range of products.
Co-op Islami launched the Halloumi cheese products based on the results of a study carried out by the company which showed that consumers in local and regional markets preferred Halloumi cheese.
In keeping to its long-standing tradition of ensuring quality and purity in its products, Co-op Islami produces Halloumi cheese by using pure vegetarian rennet. Halloumi cheese also meets international standards of quality, safety and hygiene. Co-op Islami also produces Feta cheese products, which is guaranteed to be free of animal rennet, Mozarella cheese and cream cheese.
Mr. Saleh Abdullah Lootah, Assistant General Manager (Operations) at Co-op Islami, said: “We have always been a customer focused and driven company committed to providing the widest range of quality food to our customers throughout the region. Co-Op Islami enjoys a strong market share in the cheese products sector inspite of the competition offered by other international brands".
"Our marketing and production strategies in the frozen chicken business has given us valuable inputs that has helped guide our long-term campaign to boost our presence in the cheese products sector. Co-op Islami is committed to enhancing its operations in this area. We will very soon develop a new production line for cheese products at our state-of-the-art factory in Jebel Ali. This is part of our efforts to become a leading UAE company offering high quality and safe food products in the Gulf and international markets", he added.
Co-op Islami has been also enjoying tremendous success in its range of frozen cooked and uncooked shrimp products, especially during the month of Ramadan when they were in great demand.
Co-op Islami was set up by Dubai Cooperative Society in 1981 to provide genuine halal meat products as per Islamic methods. Starting with frozen chicken, Co-op Islami expanded to provide burgers, sausages, kebabs, minced meat, etc. In 1991, the Co-op Islami plant boasting state-of-the-art technology was set up in Jebel Ali Free Zone. Co-op Islami is also the only company in the region to be awarded the HACCP certification. It already has the ISO 9001 and other certifications.
