Amman, Jordan - The Chief of the Environmental Unit at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Engineer Nidal Al Mousa said that GAM is currently working on sourcing out alternative locations for the industrial zones, in preparation for moving the plastic grinders already located in the residential neighborhoods of Sahab.
In his lecture, entitled "The Environmental Status in Amman: Challenges and Ambitions", and hosted by the Faculty of Law at the University of Jordan, Al Mousa pointed out that GAM is currently contemplating proper and adequate solutions to the stone saws, pricks and tiles production plants already located within its boundaries, in cooperation with the concerned governmental agencies to put an end to their negative impacts on the surround.
He drew the attention to the fact that plastic grinders, stone saws, tiles production facilities, in addition to lead melting plants and medical disposables, do pose a critical environmental challenge that GAM is facing, and eventually cause immense pollution
Al Mousa touched upon the procedures taken by GAM, the Ministry of Environment, and the Royal Directorate for the Protection of the Environment to follow up on the impact of such challenges, and to resort to legal measures against violators of the environmental regulations.
The GAM official further added that GAM has set up a central burner of the medical disposables at Al Ghabawi Dump Site, scheduled to commence soon, through a joint committee with the Ministry of Health.
Al Mousa stressed that GAM has already treated the health and environmental repugnant location in the live stock market of Sahab, by building a new market at Al Madouna, in addition to GAM's new direction of moving the abattoir from Marka to Al Madouna upon the completion of the new facility.
