City is the centre of attraction during Cartoon Surprises Theme Week
Dubai, July 11, 2004: The Captain Hamad Cartoon City, which has been unveiled by the Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) as part of the innovative activities showcased during the Cartoon Surprises Week, received over 5,000 visitors within two days of its launch.
The City, which threw open its doors in the Hall No. 5 and 6 of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), received over 3,000 visitors on Friday alone, making it one of the key venues for DSS activities. The 6000-square metre Captain Hamad Cartoon City appeals to children between the age group of 4-13, with 12 separate zones for cartoon shows and workshops.
Deema Hussain, Deputy General Coordinator of the Cartoon Surprises and the Heritage Surprises Committee, said: "Captain Hamad Cartoon City has already become a craze among the little ones and it has amazed many of them, because the kids have various options that suit their interests. We expect the number of visitors to increase on a daily basis, and the City will receive over 70,000 visitors during DSS 2004."
The Cartoon City presents daily shows in a massive stage set up inside, which also hosts other well-known cartoon characters. The City features 21 different events pertaining to artistic skills and imagination in the Workshop Zone, which provides free stationery and material to the little ones.
A special Kids Sumo Wrestling ring encourages the children to participate in enhancing their physical strength in a spirit of healthy competition.
The City also offers a vast array of other activities, which include the Mushroom Souq, Captain Hamad Science Corner, Jungle Adventure Cartoon Land, Smurfs Show, Snow White and Seven Dwarves, Chutes and Ladders by Wild Wadi, Play & Win Zone, Bait Al Khair Corner, Teletubbies Corner, Toon Dance Studio, Cartoon Funfair and other events.
Cartoon characters also meet children in different parts of the City and children can take pictures with their favourite characters. The Captain Hamad Cartoon City will remain open till July 23, 2004, from 2pm to 10pm. The entrance fee is Dh5 and the venue is sponsored by LG and Dubai World Trade Centre.
Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in the Cartoon Surprises by Dubai Ports Authority from July 8-14, followed by Flower Surprises by Dubai Municipality from July 15-21, Heritage Surprises by Dubai Customs from July 22-28, Adventure Surprises by Dubai Police from July 29-August 4, Knowledge Surprises by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry from August 5-11, Back-2-School Surprises by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18 and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19-27, 2004.
