Middle East, 26 June 2008 - In-Stat, a global high-tech market research firm, announced in its latest consumer network storage report that Buffalo Technology had once again dominated the consumer market in 2007 with 23.8% of the overall worldwide market for the third consecutive year. This is a 30% increase on 2006 when Buffalo's share of the market was 18.3%.
According to the report entitled, "Global Consumer Network Storage: Adding Media Servers, Remote Access, and DLNA," media serving features, simple-to-use interfaces, and remote access have helped accelerate the consumer network storage market growing it by almost 60% in 2007.
"Signs point to very solid growth through 2012 for this market. Although competition in the consumer network storage space has increased with more players, Buffalo has not only held on to its number one position, but has increased its lead," said Joyce Putscher, principal analyst at In-Stat.
Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions are storage devices that can be accessed over a computer network (usually TCP/IP), rather than directly being connected to the computer (internal hard drives or external USB/SCSI drives). NAS devices enable multiple computers to share the same storage space at once. Buffalo's consumer NAS solutions also feature web access to enable people to easily access their digital content whenever and wherever they need it. It also makes it easy for people to back up business data and files, or to share and enjoy photos, music and video while away from the home or office.
"An increasing number of households now own more than one PC or Mac, as well as multiple cameras, iPods and other gadgets," says Kevin Vine, EMEA Sales and Marketing Director at Buffalo Technology. "The move towards High Definition content continues to expand storage capacity requirements, with NAS providing the ideal solution for sharing this type of data. In 2008, we have continued to develop innovative storage solutions for the home user, helping us to maintain our leading position in the consumer NAS market." He continues to say: "Buffalo is now well positioned, both in terms of global presence and market coverage to capture the full potential of the annual growth rates forecasted by InStat. Future products will encompass the consumers ever increasing need for capacity, ease of use, connectivity and quality, while striving to underpin Buffalo's company ethos as a Technology leader in this market segment."
Buffalo offers a wide range of award winning NAS devices for the consumer and business markets. The consumer NAS brands - LinkStation Live, TeraStation Live and newly launched LinkStation Mini - are packed with features including DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified media servers, web access, direct copy function and iTunes® 7 support, aimed at matching consumer demand for high capacity NAS drive.
The LinkStation Mini (LS-WSxxxGL/R1) - available in capacities of 500GB and 1.0TB - is the worlds smallest and quietest NAS. Two 2.5" drives ensure low power consumption, and provide a large amount of capacity in a small space which, together with its silent operation, make it an ideal option for the home and professional user.
The LinkStation Live (HS-DHxxxGL), comes with one 3.5" drive and is aimed at home users that require a high capacity NAS device to store and share or stream multimedia files at an affordable price. The product is available in capacities of 250GB, 320GB, 500GB, 750GB and 1.0TB.
The TeraStation Live (HS-DHxxTGL/R5) is equipped with four 3.5" drives, provides higher capacities- available in 1.0TB, 2.0TB, 3.0TB and 4.0TB - and superior reliability by providing RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and Standard modes, which give varying levels of redundancy and/or speed.
