Students work together with Giffin Graphics and Arjo Wiggins to develop very Creative Calendar
Dubai, February 6th, 2011. Prof. Luis Castañeda, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, proudly announced that Graphic Design Students in the Visual Communication Department at the American University in Dubai (AUD), in partnership with Giffin Graphics and ArjoWiggins paper supplier, worked together to create a paper sample calendar titled SKINS, 2011. This calendar is being distributed to graphic design, advertising studios and printing companies from all around the region.
Ms. Salma Hijjawi, Marketing Manager at Giffin Graphics comments: "Working with the students and Luis since March 2010 was very exciting; they had fresh ideas, clear minds, and imagination with no boundaries".
Prof. Castañeda explains that in terms of process this project was split into two parts. The first part was working on the concept; SKINS concept was created by a Typography III course (VICD 451) last Spring 2010 semester. The second part involved the production, putting together and delivering the final artwork which took place during the Production Design course (VICD 453) this past Fall 2010.
Prof. Castañeda comments: "The calendar is quite a production. I wish to congratulate our students, in particular: Mashal Khan and Huda Yaqub who were the main core team which basically put most of the calendar together. With special thanks to student Jawad Alshamali who helped us out at the 11th hour".
Students who designed their own month in the SKINS 2011 Calendar include: Nosheen Baksh, Manolia D'Souza, Danya Hassan, Sally Alzaza, Mahmoud El Masry, Rasha Suleiman, and Shahad Nasib.
The Typography III course is concerned with creating a personal style and the bringing together of all relevant typographic elements and skills.
As for the Production Design course, the student is introduced to the various production techniques used in graphic design. The understanding of both manual and computer-aided procedures enlightens each student to the production phase which is important to the execution, presentation and publication of final designs.
