11 June 2005
The Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) launched the Arab Center for Mediation and Arbitration in Intellectual Property (ACMAIP), under the patronage of the Jordanian Prime Minister, Dr. Adnan Badran, on June 11, 2005, at Le Royal Hotel in Amman.

Deputizing for the Premier, Minister of Industry and Trade, HE Mr. Sharif Al-Zu'bi, attended the event along with hundreds of government officials, senior academics, and IP experts.

ASIP Chairman Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh who announced the launching of the center said that ACMAIP will be in charge of solving IP disputes through mediation and arbitration in order to reach amicable conciliation between the disputed parties.

The center is affiliated with the Arab Intellectual Property Mediation and Arbitration Society (AIPMAS), which is considered one of the pioneering projects carried out by ASIP in 1987.

Moreover, Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh and Mr. Abdelrahim Al-Hunaiti, President of the University of Jordan (UJ), signed the Arab Certified Intellectual Property Practitioner (ACIPP) Agreement, which became effective from the date of its signing.

ACIPP is a professional Arabic program offering advanced teaching and training for Arab practitioners. It aims at providing an easier understanding of modern principles that govern IP, as well as an access to knowledge and international developments in this field.

On the sideline of the event, Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh presented awards to winners who took part in the Simulated Intellectual Property Tribunal Competition, which was concluded last May.

The competition, which was organized by the AIPMAS in cooperation with the Faculty of Law at the UJ, aimed at providing law students with practical experience on litigation proceedings in the IP field.
