Arab Media lab project promoting the Moroccan digital cinema as a new creative tool

Arab media lab project and Canon Middle East, have announced that young filmmakers, film students and film enthusiasts were given an exclusive opportunity to produce a film clip using the latest in digital filmmaking technology and modern film making techniques during the recently concluded three-day "Digital Marrakech 2" film making workshop sponsored by Canon Middle East in Marrakech, Morocco. Organised by Arab Media Lab Project/Digital Marrakech, the workshop was conducted by German artist and filmmaker Sandeep Mehta, Produced by Abdelaziz Taleb and Abdellatif Benfaidoul, while Canon Middle East provided the Canon 5D Mark II and 7D cameras that were used by the participants.
Mai Youssef, Corporate Communications Manager, Canon Middle East, said: "The filmmaking workshop provided an excellent opportunity for young talents to learn from an accomplished filmmaker, while being acquainted with the exciting array of functionalities made possible through Canon's latest range of digital filmmaking devices. Workshop participants were certainly greatly impressed with the performance of the Canon 5D and 7D cameras as well as the powerful features that they bring to the film industry. Moreover, the young filmmakers appreciated how Canon's digital filmmaking technologies allow them to produce their own films even with a limited budget and tight schedule. Our support to the workshop is part of Canon's corporate social responsibility program and in line with our corporate philosophy of Kyosei, which drives us to live and work together for the common good."
As the Arab Media lab directors explain: "The Main goal we are trying to fulfil with this activity is to encourage and stimulate the visual experimentation in the country which will lead to a huge amount of produced works, and the birth of new filmmakers, new talents and a new Moroccan Cinema. And only Digital tools will allow all this to happen."
The workshop discussed the state-of-the-art features of the Canon 5D and 7D cameras that make it an invaluable tool for both professional and amateur filmmakers to produce work in full HD. The workshop covered key aspects of filmmaking such as pre-production, production and post-production; screenplay development; storyboard preparation; filming; and editing. Under the guidance of Sandeep Mehta, participants of the workshop were able to produce a film clip that they completed within three days using the Canon 5D and 7D cameras.
