-Open Standard to enable OEMs to Innovate and Develop Smaller, Quieter and More-Efficient Desktop Systems -

GITEX, Dubai, UAE, September 8th, 2007- - AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced the availability of DTX, an open standard specification designed by AMD to enable the broad adoption of small form factor PCs in the Middle East.

DTX has been developed to empower original equipment manufacturer (OEMs), original design manufacturer (ODMs) and component vendors to deliver innovative, energy-efficient solutions that are smaller, quieter, and desktop-friendly, all while delivering rich visual experiences to PC users.

As the trend in the desktop market moves towards lower thermal design power (TDP) processors to achieve overall lower power consumption, smaller form-factor products, and lower costs, AMD is at the forefront of defining the DTX specification, which balances interchangeability of components such as motherboards, chassis, and power supplies.

"Globally, we see a growing situation where consumers are making a conscious attempt to reduce their carbon footprint impact on the environment.  This has also created a rise in the demand for PCs based on the small form factors systems, which can consume less power and generate less noise. AMD is committed to energy-efficient computing and we want corporations and consumers to be aware of environment-friendly options such as DTX," said Gautam Srivastava, vice president, sales and marketing; managing director, AMD for Middle East, Africa and Pakistan.

"DTX embraces energy-efficient processors from AMD and other hardware vendors. When processor power consumption is reduced, system size and cooling costs may also go down. DTX is an ideal option for businesses of all sizes," added Srivastava.

Regional enterprises can benefit from innovative designs that lower energy bills helping to reduce overall operating costs, as well as sleeker systems taking less space in offices and cubicles and designed to operate quietly. Moreover, small form factors based on the DTX specifications will help enable differentiated and competitive solutions, thus allowing better and greater choice for enterprises. The market pull for small form factors PCs is also of particular interest in the small and medium business (SMB) and consumer markets that value the size advantage, power savings, and quiet nature of energy-efficient systems.

For consumers, the electricity cost savings benefit, while important, may be secondary to the innovative new designs for small form-factor PCs, which AMD believes are better suited to non-traditional locations in the home. The flexibility of the DTX open standard specification will help enable an array of small form factor designs welcomed anywhere, whether it is the kitchen, living room, or home office. The size and noise output of these smaller designs should be less intrusive than traditional PCs and designed to encourage more multi-PC households. When linked with the other PCs and devices, these small form factor PCs can help provide more convenient access and management of content for every type of user in the home.
