Initiative promotes integrated public and private sector approach for safer operations and transportation
Abu Dhabi, UAE: Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), a master developer and manager of both commercial and community ports, and owner of the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad), in Abu Dhabi, has today announced that it is spearheading a joint-stakeholder initiative to promote safer driving in its ports and across the emirate.
The five-day campaign is in cooperation with both the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate and Emirates Driving Company, and has the title 'Be aware & drive with care'.
It will run from 26-30 May at Khalifa Port, and will seek to educate and raise awareness amongst truck drivers of the safety regulations for driving in, and beyond, ADPCs ports.
ADPC will offer truck drivers passing through the ports the opportunity to join a range of awareness sessions and presentations. The sessions will run for five days and will cover many issues including safer driving practices and safety rules, driving home the message - 'Be aware, drive with care'.
In addition, there will be a one day workshop for transportation managers also looking at safer driving and how this applies to fleet management.
Speaking ahead of the week-long campaign, Mohamed Al Shamisi, Acting-CEO, ADPC, said:
"Safety is a number one priority for ADPC, across all of our operations and activities. By actively encouraging safety best practices and focusing on the transportation of cargo both into and from our ports, we hope that we can both support and actively contribute to the Government's clear and active initiatives to reduce road and land transport-related incidents."
"ADPC's commitment to an operationally safe and efficient environment is something we seek to actively demonstrate and apply in all our activities, for the benefit of our staff, customers and everyone connected to our ports," added Al Shamisi.
Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC)
As a master developer and regulator of ports and industrial zones in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, ADPC's core objective is to facilitate the diversification of Abu Dhabi's economy by stimulating development and trade. It supports partners' infrastructure projects and sets up new companies and joint ventures in the ports and industrial zones sectors.
The company's AED 26.5 billion (USD 7.2 billion) megaproject - the flagship Khalifa Port and Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad) - has been designed to be flexible to reflect market needs. Kizad was launched to market in 2010, and the whole of Khalifa Port was inaugurated on 12/12/12 by UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The port's semi-automated container terminal, unique in a radius of 5000 kilometres, was launched on September 1st, 2012. Khalifa Port is now handling all of Abu Dhabi's TEU container traffic, after its transfer from Mina Zayed, the historic port in the city centre.
Phase One of Khalifa Port has a capacity of 2.5 million container units, plus 12 million tons of cargo. Further phases of development will occur as market demand requires. With all phases complete, Khalifa Port will be able to handle 15 million containers and 35 million tons of cargo per year.
