Dubai: Thousands of UAE residents took part in creating a new Guinness World Record by putting together the largest greeting card mosaic in the world — now displayed on Shaikh Zayed Road, next to Jebel Ali metro station.
The card, which measures 110.13 metres long, was part of an initiative organised by Proctor and Gamble (P&G) in partnership with Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour stores.
The campaign called ‘Thank You Mum for Raising a Champion’, gave people in the UAE a platform to showcase their unconditional love for their mums by signing thank you cards at participating Carrefour Hypermarkets in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif and Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi.
“Mums are the ones who keep on supporting families through everything. For mums, their children always come first. We wanted to give our consumers a way to give something back and say ‘thank you’ to their mums for the role they’ve played in raising strong children,” said Khalid Adawi, director for P&G in the Arabian Peninsula.
The Thank You Mom mosaic is made up of thousands of cards written by UAE residents, and its length is almost double the previous world record of 66.48 metres.
Speaking about the criteria required to achieve a Guinness World Record attempt, Talal Omar, Mena country manager at Guinness World Records, said: “Breaking a Guinness World Record is no mean feat; an attempt must fulfil key criteria before it will even be considered — it must be measurable, breakable, verifiable and standardisable, among others.”
These criteria were met, bringing yet another world record to the UAE. “The UAE’s consumers put together the longest greeting card mosaic globally, we would like to extend our congratulations to them,” said Omar.
The greeting cards, written over a 10-day period by Carrefour Hypermarkets’ shoppers, are now displayed online at thankyoumomuae.com.
