Omani citizens and students in Malaysia have been warned to stay away from the state of Johor, Oman’s embassy in Kuala Lumpur said.

The warning comes in the wake of air pollution caused due to illegal chemical dumping in the area of Pasir Gudang in Johor.

“The Sultanate of Oman’s Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has asked citizens and residents of Malaysia to exercise caution and not to travel to the state of Johor in general and the Pasir Gudang area in particular,” the embassy said.

It added, “Omani students in the area are also required to stay away from places that have been exposed to chemical contamination as much as possible and report to the nearest hospital or clinic immediately if they feel any suffocation or shortness of breath.”
