Flabby members of a top expatriate sports club will be able to shed the excess pounds they have been piling on over the pandemic period … and still say safe in a new-look gym.

The Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) is currently transforming its facilities once again to meet demand with a major extension. Groundwork is already in progress at the Janabiya facility.

“Since we first renovated our gym facility in 2018 it has been massively popular with our members,” explained club chairman Mike Cunningham.

“As a result of the positive feedback from our members and demand for greater access, the gym was further extended in 2019 to almost double the size and adding additional cardio and strength training equipment.

“With social distancing restrictions due to Covid-19, we’ve had to strictly limit the number of members using the gym and the amount of equipment available.

“The latest extension will allow us to provide greater access to the gym as it will again increase the floor space and ensure we can maintain the necessary segregation to ensure member welfare.

“We’re looking forward to an end to the pandemic and, when this happens, the additional space will enable us to offer more personal training and add to the availability of classes for our members.

“The latest extension of the gym incorporates an area of the club adjacent to the pool that was not greatly used and often neglected.

“We hope this initiative helps to enhance to appeal of the area around the main and children’s pools for all our members.”

The club started life as a section of the British Club in 1971. From its humble beginnings 50 years ago, BRFC now boasts in excess of 4,000 members participating locally and regionally in a variety of sports including rugby, football, netball, cricket, badminton, veteran’s rugby, Gaelic football and triathlon.
