A man was charged with altering the expiry date on a paid parking ticket to avoid paying the fee in Dubai.

The 35-year-old Armenian man had been in the parking lot on November 19 of last year.

He claimed that he needed to get a ticket but the machine wasn't working, so he picked a ticket from the ground and "cut the expiry time off and stuck it on his own ticket" so it read 22:00 instead of 8:00.

The man then went to work.

A parking inspector said he was checking the cars in the Roads and Transport Authority parking lots in Al Karama area around8:40amthe next morning.

He spotted the defendant's car. "It had a paid parking ticket. But I noticed the number 22 had been cut from another ticket and stuck to the new one," the inspector said.

"I also noticed the fee paid was just Dh4 when it should have been Dh10. I called the police to report the vehicle."

Police summoned him to the station.

The court postponed the next hearing tillMay 16.
