AMMAN - The government will comply with the Royal directives to submit the recommendations of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System to Parliament to proceed with their endorsement, Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh said.

The PM said that His Majesty King Abdullah received a report on the outcomes of the Royal committee’s work, including the draft laws of elections and political parties. He also received a set of constitutional amendments, as well as recommendations related to enhancing local administration and women and youth empowerment.

The premier also highlighted the need to refer these recommendations to the existing government frameworks that require linking them with a number of private institutions relevant to women and youth empowerment.

The proposed constitutional amendments have lowered the age of candidacy to 25 years, he said, describing it as a “bright spot that reflects the demographic reality”.
