Muscat: An employment agency that provided domestic help to customers was closed down in North Batinah after many complaints.

According to a statement by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection, the agency would take the entire payment before giving their service, which is contrary to the Consumer Protection Law. Furthermore, the agency recalled domestic workers and moved them to other clients without returning the payments given by earlier costumers.

"The authority in North Batinah cooperated with Public Prosecution to close an employment agency after many complaints surfaced, claiming that the agency had reneged on agreements," the statement read.

The agency had signed contracts for the recruitment of domestic workers with specific conditions, but then did not commit to these conditions. "This led customers to contact the PACP," the statement added.
