Egyptian Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker met with Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany Stefan Wenzel to discuss ways of boosting green hydrogen and renewables cooperation, the Egyptian ministry stated on March 12th.

In the presence of a number of German businessmen, Shaker expressed Egypt’s keenness in diversifying energy resources and expanding renewable energy projects, referring to the sector's strategy which targets increasing the contribution of renewable energy to more than 42% of the national electricity mix by 2035.

Moreover, the minister highlighted the successful cooperation with Siemens in the establishment of three power plants with capacities of 14.4 gigawatts and efficiency of 60.5%, which helped saving fuels in Egypt.

He also mentioned that the country is collaborating with international companies to carry out trial projects for the production of green hydrogen, which marks a first step for Egypt towards expansion in this sector, adding that Egypt has already signed 23 memoranda of understanding in this regard.

Fir his part, Wenzel praised the rapid and remarkable development of the projects implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity.
