Yemen LNG is constructing a new Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) Extraction Unit in Marib which will increase LPG supplies to domestic market by 33 percent.
General Manager of Yemen LNG, Francois Rafin, said that during a press conference held at the company last week.
Rafin said this unit was designed in America, according to the latest specifications and will be constructed by specialized Yemeni Company, for the first time in Yemen.
Rafin noted the successful participation of Yemen in the Sixteenth International Conference on LNG, which was held recently in the city of Oran, Algeria, attended by representatives of the countries exporting natural gas around the world.
He continued, saying, "This is the first participation of Yemen in the ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) as a supervisor following the launch of Yemen's first LNG shipment in December 2009."
He talked about the exported shipments saying,"The number of exported shipments by the company since the launch of the first shipment of the project in November 2009 amounted to 22 shipments.
Rafin said shipments were exported to America, Mexico, Spain, India, China, Korea, and the United Kingdom, showing that the company will export during the current year 84 shipment of gas to markets around the world. He noted that the company must export 105 shipments annually according to the signed contracts.
He reviewed the contributions of the company in support of the community where the company is currently recruiting 50 students from the various provinces, including six from Marib and six fromShabwah. They will also join the training company's center in May in an intensive program through 18 months, as well as hiring 4 of 50 technicians from all regions of Yemen. He said that the company will send Yemeni students to complete their Master's in France.
Rafin said the company had agreed with the governors of Shabwa and Marib to focus on programs that help them to enroll the internal scholarships in Yemeni universities.
He added the company signed an agreement for a period of five years on the medical program in cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and Minerals and the Ministry of Public Health and Population and the Yemeni Red Crescent including the construction and modernization of ten Health centers in Shabwa and Marib and recruitment of medical staff and nurses.
Rafin said, "The Yemen LNG will export produced quantities by 30 percent to the South Korean market and 70 percent to the U.S. market within three long-term contracts for a period of 20 years."
