Abu Dhabi Twofour54, the Abu Dhabi government-backed media hub, is pushing for the development of a local film and TV production industry through its collaboration with Digital Domain Media Group.

The latter will establish an animation, visual effects and motion capture studio and a media school in Abu Dhabi, which is expected to create 500 jobs for local talent in media production. The deal was announced at the Cannes Film Festival.

DDMG will start production of visual effects and animation at studios in twofour54 by early next year. The new studio will create animated feature films, produce visual and 3D effects, and produce original Middle Eastern-branded entertainment.

“Digital Domain represents the next great leap forward for twofour54 and Abu Dhabi,” said Noura Al Kaabi, CEO of twofour54.

The institute, modelled after the one in Florida, will train students in digital media production. Classes are scheduled to begin in early 2014.

Meanwhile, twofour54 and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission have launched an incentive scheme for international and regional producers using the emirate for location, production and post-production services.
