MUSCAT: Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) was awarded G-REX Award 2010 by International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in recognition of the effective contributions carried out by the TRA staff in this important international forum, which contributed greatly to enrich the forum with many topics and discussions on issues related to communications and information sector.
TRA is keen to engage its staff in international institutions and organisations connected with regulating and developing the telecommunications sector worldwide.
Through involving its staff in such forums, the TRA aims to honour their skills and expertise in various specialties, and to be constantly informed of the rapid developments taking place in the telecommunication sector.
Electronic forum
It is worth mentioning that the Global Regulators' Exchange (G-REX) is an electronic forum that was launched by the ITU in 2001 for the exchange of information and regulatory frameworks and developments in the telecom sector.
The forum addresses various topics concerning the telecom sector, especially with regard to the regulatory aspect of this important sector which includes issues related to the quality of service, interconnection, equipment approval, competition in telecom sector and regulation of the infrastructure.
