DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) held a two-day workshop that concluded yesterday to establish a comprehensive quality control system.

The workshop on aspects of quality control within a microbiological laboratory was organised by the Training and Development Department in cooperation with the Central Food Laboratory Department.

The workshop was held in coordination with the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA).

The workshop focused on fulfilling certain learning outcomes as establishing and maintaining a comprehensive quality control system, organising and monitoring proficiency testing programmes, developing verification and validation protocols for new introduced methods.

Dr Stuart Andrews, Associate Professor at the University of South Australia, and the current Chairman of NATA'S Biological Accreditation Advisory Committee, was the presenter of the workshop, and delivered a number of relevant educational lectures during.

Rana Fakhroo, Head of the Central Food Laboratory, delivered a speech at the beginning of the workshop and said that the objective of the workshop was to enhance awareness of microbiologist and laboratory personnel working in the field of biological testing, especially those analysing food, water and pharmaceutical samples.

She added that the workshop discussed many important topics, such as quality control, proficiency testing procedures, as well as quality control accreditation requirements.

Mariam Al Sulaiti, Head of Training and Development at the SCH, confirmed that the workshop was part of the SCH efforts to develop staff capacity and skills to keep up with the international development.
