Stratic Energy Acquires New 2D Seismic Data From Syria’s Block 17
Stratic Energy Corporation of Canada on 26 November announced that it had completed the acquisition of more than 1,100km of new 2D seismic data in Block 17, an area covering 5,076 sq km located south of the Palmyra gas development area. The interpretation of the new data is expected around year-end, and subject to positive results and the ability to secure a rig, the company plans to drill an exploration well in mid-2008. Stratic Energy (operator) has a 35% interest in Block 17 which was awarded under a production-sharing contract (PSC) signed in 2005 (MEES, 12 December 2005), with 33.33% held by the Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (Kufpec) and 31.67% by another Canadian company DualEx. In early 2006 Stratic Energy retrieved about 3,000km of 2D seismic data on Block 17 from the archives of the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) and loaded it on a geophysical workstation, a company statement said. This old data was used to define the scope of the new 2D seismic survey which has been completed.
