BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Saudi Railways Organization, or SRO, is preparing to invite contracts to implement the large-scale Landbridge rail project that will link the kingdom's east in the Persian Gulf to its west on the Red Sea, pan-Arab Al Hayat daily reports Thursday citing an official.

The project will connect the Jeddah Islamic Port to the Dammam port through the current rail network in addition to a link to Yanbu industrial city, Abdul Aziz Al Hokail, SRO's president, said according to the paper. This will bring the overall length of the rail to 1,300 kilometers, he added.

SRO is also studying a request by the Saudi Industrial Property Authority to link the port of King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh to the Landbridge rail project, the daily cites Hokail as saying.
