The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) on Monday signed a contract with Al Edrak Trading and Construction Company to construct a building for the offices of the Omani Film Society, Omani Journalists' Association and Omani Society for Writers and Literati.

The building will come up in the Airport Heights area at a cost of over RO2mn and is expected to be completed in a year from the commencement of work. The three-storeyed structure will be built on an area of 4,018.6sqm on a 10,000sqm plot and will also house a theatre, studios and a library.

"This contract represents His Majesty's interest in societies. We hope these societies will contribute to serving the society," said H E Dr Yahya bin Bader al Mawali, Undersecretary, MoSD.

Dr Khalid Abdul Rahim al Zadjali, chairman of Oman Film Society, said, "This dream will soon become a reality. It will meet the aspirations of all three societies, which will now be able to function smoothly."

Abdul Kareem Jawad from the Omani Society for Writers and Literati said that the society's headquarters at the new premises will be equipped with many of the latest facilities. "This is a dream come true for us. We thank His Majesty for this valuable grant."

The contract was signed by H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, and Thomas Alexander, manager of Al Edrak Trading and Construction.
