BAGHDAD, March 29 (AKnews)

Qatar has suggested that it hosts the 24th Arab summit next year instead of Oman, said a spokesman for the summit's media committee.

Qatar submitted a proposal to the secretariat of the Arab League without mentioning specific reasons for its desire to host the event.

Ali al-Dabbagh told reporters on the sidelines of the current summit in Baghdad that the proposal will be presented during today's summit meeting for approval.

The Arab summit meeting kicked off today within the heavily-fortified governmental Green Zone in central Baghdad. Iraq is heading the event under the slogan "nations and leaders hand in hand".

Arab leaders will discuss and approve nine draft resolutions submitted by Arab foreign ministers from their meeting yesterday.

The Baghdad Declaration will also be issued by leaders today after it was adopted by foreign ministers yesterday. The declaration covers the adoption of comprehensive political and economic reforms in a way that safeguards the dignity and rights of Arab citizens.
