DOHA: The number of public parks in Qatar has seen a steady increase over the past four years, according to latest statistics released by the Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.
In 2005, there had been a total of 29 parks in the country which has now gone up to 49. The country has got five new parks this year. Doha has the largest number of public parks -- 25, followed by Al Rayyan -- 11 parks. Al Khor and Daain municipalities currently has two parks each while Wakra Municipality has got five parks, with addition of two new parks this year. Al Shamal has three parks while Umm Salal has got only one.
The Doha Municipality has announced plans to set up seven new parks in the city in 2010. The municipality is offering free internet connection at three major family parks in the city- Al Dafna, Rumailah, and Dahl Al Hammam. This service is provided with support of ictQatar.
