DOHA: The Fifth Qatar International Investment and Real Estate Exhibition (Q-REX) opened yesterday with exhibitors positive about Qatar's real estate climate.

The Minister of State for International Cooperation and Acting Minister of Business and Trade, H E Dr Khaled bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, along with other officials opened the four-day exhibition.

"All the world is currently focused on Qatar so I think compared to the previous year the sector will experience more success in 2010," said Mohammed Salah, General Manager, Ezdan Hotel and Suites.

This is the second time Ezdan is participating in the expo and Salah observed that it had improved considerably from last year.

Qatari Diar's ambitious project, Lusail City, is showcased at the expo while the stand of United Development Company (UDC) displays its flagship project, The Pearl Qatar, which is due to be completed in three years.

Hala Nasreddine, Corporate Communications Manager, UDC, said that from today they would be showing more of their environmental programmes and take interested clients on a tour of The Pearl Qatar. "For those interested in leasing shops, restaurants or spaces in the boardwalk, there would be someone everyday to take them for a tour of the island for them to see the opportunities," he said.

During its four-year run the expo which is organised by Trance Continent has been a success having been widely attended by large companies both in the country and from overseas.

Many companies specializing on real estate development, investment, marketing, brokerage, insurance, engineering and interior designing are participating in the exhibition in addition to real estate commercial societies, tourism companies and hotels.

Barwa, United Development Company, Qatari Diar and Ezdan are among the exhibitors and for this year Cyprus is also showing some of the exceptional opportunities in its tourism sector.

The exhibition has also improved in terms of space from 5,000 square metres at the first exhibition to 15,000 square metres this year.

The organisers said the previous success of the exhibition as manifested by its accommodation of more than 100 investment as well as real estate companies from the Gulf region, the Arab world and from other parts of the world encouraged them to expand and invite more international companies to participate at Q-Rex 2010.

The expo aims at giving the participants an opportunity to showcase their projects and products on the one hand and facilitate sharing of ideas among them on the other.

The exhibition is open until Saturday from 10am to 1pm and from 5pm to 10pm.
