CARTHAGE - Caretaker President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki conferred, Friday, in Carthage Palace, with President of the Development Committee at the European Parliament Eva Joly.
He evoked with his guest means to support co-operation between the European Parliament and Tunisia in the different fields, especially concerning the recovery of Tunisia's looted assets placed in foreign banks and financial institutions.
President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki presented to the Green Party member, an overview on the political situation in the country, the stages of preparing the new Constitution as well as the economic and social realities and liberties in Tunisia, a statement of the Presidency of the Republic reads.
In turn, the European deputy voiced fear to see the debate on the Constitution take over the other concerns of the political leaders in Tunisia without taking into consideration the need to remedy the economic and social situation, establish good governance, and speed up the recovery of the stolen assets, the same statement reads.
Eva Joly also expressed wish of the European Parliament to see the Tunisians adopt their new constitution in the shortest terms, emphasising on the other hand, the need to guarantee, the public liberties and protect artists, intellectuals and journalists to consecrate the democratic principles adopted by Tunisia after its Revolution against corruption.
