On Sunday, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) took the wraps off ambitious plans to develop state-of-the-art health care facilities. The plan also envisages Dubai becoming a centre for future medical tourists in much the same way as officials in Thailand promote their facilities to foreign visitors in need of treatment.
As part of the plan, Rashid Hospital in Dubai is undergoing a Dh3 billion redevelopment, restructuring and rebuild. In conjunction with the redevelopment, two luxury five-star hotels are also being built — perfect home-away-from-homes for those who will utilise the new, expanded medical, diagnostic and treatment facilities.
However, while helping the economy grow and enticing medical tourists to visit Dubai is one facet, providing the best diagnostic and treatment facilities for Emiratis and residents remains at the top of the agenda. As as result of the revamp, whether you are from the UAE or simply visiting will not matter — all will be treated with the best services medical professionals can provide.
The plans for Rashid Hospital are just one facet of the DHA’s ambitious development plans for the next three years.
In a briefing to His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Eisa Al Maidour, Director-General of the DHA, outlined the key strategy to ensure the emirate becomes a leader in health care provision. The authority plans to build on providing greater awareness for all through information and education campaigns. As the old adage goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure — and the DHA will increase preventative health programmes where possible. There will be an overriding commitment to providing quality and timely care while ensuring that the facilities under the umbrella of the DHA provide cost-effective treatment in a competitive environment.
New treatment centres and expanded trauma and outpatient beds will guarantee that residents and visitors have the best medical facilities at their disposal. Future planning also means looking after all — and that is assured with this new proposal.
