Gulf News

Dubai: The tension was more visible on the faces of the parents than it was on the junior contestants during Thursday's Blockbuster.

Some contestants looked to their parents for assurance and approval after answering each question, and as the competition got fierce, one parent politely intervened on behalf of a contestant to point out what she considered unfair play.

Overexcited

The afternoon game started with the first question being cancelled after an overexcited member of the audience blurted the answer out loud.

Still, the audience's enthusiasm was reflected in the continued answering of questions in murmurs and whispers, none loud enough for the contestants to hear.

Anand's last game with Antara was tense, as the competition was close and neither of the contestants had come out significantly ahead of the other.

Both were impressively quick to reach for their buzzers and each question was being fought for.

Anand, however, is no newcomer to quiz contests. He has won the Gulf version of Zee TV's popular Bournvita Quiz Contest in Bahrain, where he was living until this year.

"I heard about Gulf News Blockbuster and people said it was very competitive. My parents and teachers encouraged me so I decided to join," said the eighth grader, adding that his friends had also come to watch.

"One thing I wanted to kick myself for was not answering a cricket-related question. I'm a sports fan," he said.

The winner of the junior singles heat 4 was Rohan Sampath. Sindhu Ravindra won a DVD player in the audience's question.
