ISLAMABAD, Jan 5 (KUNA) -- Pakistan Thursday expressed a deep sense of gratitude to Kuwait, its government as well as people for providing intensive relief aid and assistance to the quake-struck country, as the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced to donate mobile hospitals and ambulances.
Chairman of KRCS, Burges al-Berges, today held an hour-long meeting with the President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf and discussed quake related efforts.
The meeting was also attended by the Kuwait ambassador to Islamabad, Faisal Al-Mulaifi, the head of KRCS team, Yousef Al-Merag, and the chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
Mr. Berges briefed the President on relief aid being provided by the Kuwaiti government and KRCS so far. He also informed the President that KRCS will soon be bringing in two mobile hospitals, purchased from a Singaporean company, United BSCE.
He requested the President to exempt hospitals from taxes, to which he agreed immediately and also ordered Pakistani officials to provide KRCS all possible cooperation.
"The President was very thankful to the Kuwaiti government and people and KRCS for providing relief aid and assistance from the very first day the quake struck the country", said Mr. Berges while talking to KUNA later.
He said the President asked KRCS to provide ambulances, which are urgently needed in the devastated areas. "Besides mobile hospitals, we soon will be bringing in ambulances", al-Berges added.
Al-Berges assured the Pakistani government and people of continuous support from their brotherly country of Kuwait.
KRCS is one of a few foreign organizations, which immediately dispatched all possible aid and assistance to Pakistani devastated areas. An air bridge has been established between the two countries and Kuwait panes carrying relief goods and necessary medicines arrive here almost every week.
KRCS has currently taken responsibility for 15 camps, sheltering 8, 237 displaced people. Kuwait has pledged USD 100 million to Pakistan.
The ambassador, Faisal Al-Mulaifi, also hosted a luncheon in the honor of KRCS chairman and PRCS officials.
