MUSCAT -- The largely successful Omani products promotion campaign would be extended to all wilayats in the Sultanate, a top government official said here yesterday.
Rashad Al Hinai, undersecretary, sports affairs, after inaugurating the exhibition of the Omani products promotion campaign for the year 2006 at Lulu Hypermarket Bausher informed mediapersons that the success of the campaign in the Muscat region prompted the government to extend the promotion to all wilayts.
Rashad did the honours at the cake cutting ceremony to mark the opening which was held in the presence of Ahmed Sulaiman Saleh Al Maimani, undersecretary, administration and finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry; and representatives of Omani Products Promotion Committee; Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), Ministry of Commerce and Industry; sponsoring companies; Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI); among others.
The Omani government has been organising the Omani products promotion campaigns to promote the Omani products through a number of activities targeted at the consumers in the local market since 1997.
The campaign is organised jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, PEIE and OCCI.
The activities of the campaign include events such as exhibitions, hypermarkets contests for selling Omani products, radio and TV programmes, sports programmes, and school educational programmes, besides making special marketing studies.
Rashad said: "It is very good time to expose Omani products specially in places like Lulu Hypermarket. Shoppers here will understand what is the importance of the local product by comparing the quality and even the way of presentation of the product."
Rashad said that this campaign is important not only for the Muscat region so it is stretched to all regions so that they can market the products not only in the Sultanate but outside too.
"The government is making every effort to market the products outside Muscat and they have already started this campaign in other wilayats so I think it is very good opportunity for the companies now to cooperate with the government to promote their products," Rashad pointed out.
When asked how many wilayats are being covered in the campaign, Rashad said: "They have started in a few wilayats but I cannot name them right now but there has been a good response and it has very good impact. And the government organisations like the Ministry of Commerce and Industry expects the companies to come forward to present their ideas as to what they need and require so at least the government can help them to implement it." The Omani products promotion campaign organised a number of Omani products exhibitions in the hypermarkets last year also.
Some of them included Lulu Hypermarket, Al Burj, Carrefour, Safeer Hypermarket, and Al Fair.
These exhibitions were successful that is why these exhibitions will continue for the second year in 2006 by putting a special programme in the hypermarkets to promote Omani products.
This will include new and different activities as compared to last year in order to attract more consumers and give them a clear idea about the importance and high quality of Omani products, officials of Omani products promotion campaign said.
