MUSCAT -- Nearly four decades of priceless sound tracks that brought us the early period of Omani Renaissance till its 40 years today, the sound waves that witnessed a nation marching ahead, at the Oman Radio 90.4 FM are to be digitalised for preserving so that future generation finds it more appealing and user-friendly.

The workforce at the recording and archiving sections are currently undergoing a training session to be better capable of doing the laborious task of converting the fat audio data into digital archives.

"Modern technology is getting advanced day by day and these tapes are by and large considered obsolete and hence will not be in existence after some time. We also need to move forward along with the changing times and shouldn't be left out," says Ahmed Mohammed Saleh al Balushi, Director of Radio Studios who is also heading the Digitalisation Training Project.

"The training is all about audio digital archiving which means that we are in the process of transferring all audio materials in the archives which include tapes and CDs of last nearly 4 decades since the Omani radio service started in the early seventies".

Digitalising the archives will ease and prompt employees' work while improving the quality of the software being broadcast.
