MUSCAT: The Port Services Corporation held an awards ceremony to honour leaders of the shipping fraternity in the Sultanate, port users and related government agencies in recognition of their significant contributions during the year 2009. Khalil bin Abdullah Al Khonji, chairman, OCCI was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Jawad bin Hassan bin Sulaiman, chairman, Port Services Corp said, "The corporation will continue implementing its policy aiming to upgrade and develop its national manpower and enhance the operating efficiency of the port by improving the productivity and raising their professional skills through the introduction of annual upgradation programmes designed by the concerned departments."
He said, "In spite of the reduction in the business volume in 2009, I am pleased to mention that the cargo handled at the port during the year, exceeded for the third year the limit of 10,000,000 freight tonnes."
Maersk Shipping Services and Co LLC, Bhacker Haji Abdullatif Fazul LLC and Gulf Agency Co. (Oman) LLC won the large crystal for awards for outstanding contribution to PSC's turnover.
Khimji Shipping and Agency, Sharaf Shipping Services and Co LLC and Al Fayha Shipping Agencies LLC won the large crystal for outstanding efforts in promoting the business of PSC. Badar Shipping Agencies LLC, Eint Shipping and Atlas Shipping and Logistics LLC won the small crystal for achieving significant growth at PSC.
The certificate award for top five vehicle importers went to Saud Bahwan Automotive LLC, OTE Group and Suhail Bahwan Automobile LLC.
The certificate award for top ten importers of containers went to Saud Bahwan Automotive LLC, Oman Food Stuff Factory LLC, Oman Cables Industry (SAOG), Khimji Ramdas LLC, Al Jebali Trading Est LLC, Daewoo Engineering & Construction, Al Khan Food Stuff LLC, Teeba National Trading Company, Oman Marketing & Services Co. (OMASCO) and Oman Flour Mills Co. (SAOG).
