MUSCAT -- Following consultation with the Public Authority for Consumer Protection, the Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) has decided to modify the parking tariffs at Muscat International Airport with effect from yesterday.

According to the new rules car park No 4 will be allocated to extended parking for those who travel outside the country leaving their cars in the airport area. The fare will be RO 2 for the first two days and increases to RO 3 in the third day and RO 4 in the fourth day and then RO 5 from the fifth day onwards.
That means parking a car at the car park No 4 will cost RO 24 in the first week and RO 35 in the second week as per the new regulations.

The parking tariffs for the car park No 2 will remain unchanged that is RO 0.500 for the first half hour and RO 1 for each additional hour.

OAMC's decision that increase the parking fees to RO 5 triggered negative reactions among the citizens which caused the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) to interfere and negotiate a middle-ground solution.

The car park at Muscat International Airport has been extended several times during last year to boost its capacity however the problem was not unsolved completely with car jams occurring particularly during the rush hours causing aviation companies to complain from passengers being delayed from flight timing.
Studies conducted by OAMC recommended an increase of parking tariffs in an effort to reduce traffic congestions outside the airport.
