The Moroccan National Railway Office (ONCF) and Medi Tlcom Company have signed a partnership agreement that aims at developing the Moroccan telecommunication infrastructure.

The signing ceremony, held on Wednesday in Rabat, was headed by the Moroccan Equipment and Transport Minister, Karim Ghallab.

The partnership includes two agreements. By virtue of the first, which will last ten years, ONCF will rent optical fibres to Medi Tlcom on the railway lines linking Fes to Oujda, and Medi Tlcom equipment will be set up on the ONCF's technical premises.

The second agreement concerns the construction of two networks of optical fibres along the railway lines linking Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, tangier, and Marrakech. This project will be earmarked MAD 140 million and will be finished by the end of 2006.

The agreement was signed by Mohamed Rabie Khlie, the ONCF general manager, and Inigo Serrano, general manager of Medi Tlcom.

The partnership is meant to advance the two parties' quality of service and widen Medi Tlcom's national communication network.
