Dubai: A worker who fell into a mixing tunnel emerged with only a broken arm.
Saundarajan, an Indian, 35, is undergoing treatment at Rashid Hospital.
"He is doing fine and has broken an arm. He will be taken care of," said Zaher Kayali, shipping manager at the Tremix Company.
The incident took place yesterday when Saundarajan climbed on to a large container holding sand and gravel which was attached to a large tunnel carrying the materials to the company's main mixing apparatus.
"Saundarajan was trying to loosen the sand that had got wet in the rains. He fell into the tunnel and the sand covered him. It took us a while to realise he was trapped. A colleague raised the alarm," said a fellow worker.
Saundarajan joined the company six months ago.
"It was a relief to hear him talk when we got him out. Anything could have happened," said another worker.
